SCHOOL FEEDING IN LIMBO AS MATRON STARVE STUDENTS.

 Governments all over the world initiate policies and programs with the backdrop of alleviating poverty and hunger in rural areas.

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) which started in 2005 is one of such policies.

The school meals and school feeding have been used as an effective mechanism for addressing child nutrition, educational enrolment and retention and hygiene issues in most parts of the world.

The prima goal of the Ghana School Feeding Programme is to deliver a well-organized, decentralized intervention providing disadvantaged school children with nutritionally adequate, locally produced food thereby reducing poverty through improved household incomes and effective local economic development.

But the above mentioned goals of the policy seem to be hitting the rocks in the Anloga District.

Miss Linda Degorl, a cousin to the DCE for Anloga District, is one of the privileged people to be awarded the school feeding program in some selected schools in Kome, in the Anloga District.

The actions of Matron Linda are fine description of emotionally hardened person.

Apart from cooking substandard foods,  she deliberately starved the disadvantaged students who depend solely on the food she cooks. According to a teacher who spoke to the Third Eye News Gh under the condition of anonymity said the matron on countless occasions starved the pupils. "She did not cook for the schools in the first week of resumption of the JHS Two (2) students, the worse happened on Friday, 30th October, 2020, when she "buried" 80 students" he said.

When accosted, she gave flimsy excuse of not having gas to cook for the students.

Linda has no regard the GES approved menu for cooking as she often resort to preparing cheaper dishes, that is, kenkey with tiny fried fish and plain rice and "tasteless" tomatoes sauce with boiled egg.

All attempt by the headteachers and the teachers to drawn her attention to her behaviour proved futile.

This is but one of the numerous plights meted out to schools under the feeding program by Matrons of Linda's caliber which goes unreported.

Persons like Linda are the reasons why good policies and programs of successive governments do not meet their formulated  goals.

TOGBI KPORKU III, THE DIPLOMATIC TRAILBLAZER

On the August 28, 1998, Togbi Kporku lll, Chief of Alakple was appointed by former President Jerry John Rawlings as Ghana's Ambassador to the Empire of Japan same as Ghana's High Commissioner to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. In an eulogy penned by Senam Doe, an indigene of Alakple and editor at The Third EyeGh, Senam write these few words in honour of Togbi's memory.
