A group of young men and women from the six communities in the Kome enclave (that is, Atito, Latame, Alakple, Fiaxor, Kodzi and Deta) on Friday, November 12, 2021 have donated some 121 Mathematical sets worth GHC800.00 to 120 final year students in the various junior high schools in Kome.   In the second week of November 2021, a video went viral giving the impression that the people of Alakple and Atito in the Kome area of Anlo have been destroying trees planted by government in our area. This video is coming at a time that the world is focused on climate change at the COP26 in Glasgow UK and where tree planting and forestation are key issues of the conference.  It is important to note that tree planting in the Kome area of Anlo started in about the year 2000, as a self help project and not by Government. This project was spearheaded by the NGO called RUSO formed by the former Member of Parliament Hon. Clement Kofi Humado and family at Alakple. A Cassia seedling nursery was established in his residence at Alakple and managed by a Peace Corps volunteer called Pamela. Volunteer youth from Alakple and Latame were recruited to plant seedlings in the Kome towns and along the main road from Alakple to Kome Junction. A concerned youth group made up of citizens of Alakple, home and abroad, on Saturday, April 3, 2021, donated some assorted foodstuffs to some identified less privileged individuals in the Alakple and Latame communities. The Young Alaskans, as part of their six-year anniversary celebration, decided to raise fund among its members to support and put a smile on the faces of some 60 persons whose living conditions were found to be below par during this Easter festive season. The items donated to the deserving beneficiaries were maize, rice, soap, matches and tomato paste sachets. The interim vice-president of the group, Joseline Demordzi, said the objective of the group is to assist the beneficiaries during this Easter as part of the group's six-year anniversary celebration, and to lessen the burden that COVID-19 has exerted on some households.  The items worth Ghc 2,000.00 were fairly distributed among the deserving beneficiaries.   The residents of the Dewenu and Dewegodo communities in the Anloga District of the Volta Region have raised serious concerns about the dangerous state of a 56.4 metre long decrepit wooden foot bridge constructed on River Dewe some years ago. The wooden foot bridge which was constructed by the then Keta Municipal Assembly to aid the free movement of people and goods across River Dewe has now become a deathtrap posing commuters, mostly school children and the aged who use it on a daily basis to a looming danger. The woodworks of the foot bridge has gradually worn-out, leaving a wide gaps in the structure. This lagoon is 126 km in length and is located in the eastern coast of Ghana and separated from the Gulf of Guinea by a narrow strip of sandbar. This open salty water is surrounded by flood plains and mangrove swamps. Together they form the Keta Lagoon Ramsar site which covers 1200 km2 There are seasonal inflow of sea water during high tide from the Gulf of Guinea into the rivers.  Governments all over the world initiate policies and programs with the backdrop of alleviating poverty and hunger in rural areas. The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) which started in 2005 is one of such policies. The school meals and school feeding have been used as an effective mechanism for addressing child nutrition, educational enrolment and retention and hygiene issues in most parts of the world. The prima goal of the Ghana School Feeding Programme is to deliver a well-organized, decentralized intervention providing disadvantaged school children with nutritionally adequate, locally produced food thereby reducing poverty through improved household incomes and effective local economic development.
